The “T” in Diamond T was Chicago’s Charles A. Tilt. The marque’s distinctive logo came from his father’s shoe company, where the diamond signified quality and the “T” stood for the family name. Tilt manufactured a few custom-built passenger cars, starting in 1905, but only entered truck manufacturing in 1911, at a customer’s request. Diamond T trucks quickly gained renown for its high-quality components and assembly.

The Model 201, a one-ton pickup, was introduced in 1938 and used a Hercules engine and Warner Gear transmission. Following World War II, competition with Ford and Chevrolet for the rural pickup truck market proved difficult. Beginning in 1951, Diamond T limited production to heavy-duty commercial vehicles, and in 1958, the company sold out to White Motor Company.

This stunning Model 201 is one of only 1,379 such examples built in 1948. It was subject to a comprehensive frame-off restoration by the consignor. Every piece has been either rebuilt, replaced, or restored, including the engine and transmission, brake cylinders and shoes, the water pump, as well as all of the gauges and electrical components. Oft considered the “Cadillac of trucks,” this Diamond T pickup is no less well optioned. Features include a custom horn button for the dual horns, dual fog lamps, dual chromed mirrors, and dual windshield wipers. The interior sports dual armrests and sun visors as well as a deluxe heater, dome light, and rubber floor mats. The luxurious chromed dashboard, from a 1941 example, features an electric clock, jeweled cigar lighter, and gas, oil, voltage, and temperature gauges, all in proper working order. Furthermore, the whitewall tires, fender-mounted parking lights and turn signals, and front and rear chrome bumpers add to the well-appointed appeal.

The restoration has been thoroughly documented by the consignor and includes receipts and manuals, as well as a wiring diagram. Additional parts include a spare pot metal grille, original trim, five wheel covers, and extra seat fabric, amongst other spare parts.

True to its reputation as a deluxe, yet rugged truck, this Diamond T pickup is sure to impress.
