Cadillac made a move toward more streamlined design with its new Type 57 of 1918. The top line of the model’s hood and cowl formed a continuous line to the windshield, while the hood louvers and windshield were inclined six degrees, for a sporty flair. No fewer than 17 factory body styles were available, including everything from a roadster, to five different limousines, and even a hearse.

The 1919 model offered here was acquired in the 1950s by longtime enthusiast Calvin Zahn, a very active collector who enjoyed many fine automobiles over the years. Maintained by Mr. Zahn until his passing in 1994, it was subsequently inherited by his daughter and then by his grandson, from whom it is offered here today after nearly 60 years in the family.

Finished in an elegant red and black with correct nickel trim, the car rides on wooden artillery wheels, and is accessorized with dual rear-mounted spares, a rolled aluminum bumper, Motometer, air horn, side-view mirror, and a correct black cloth top. It is recognized as a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) and would be eligible for many of their events; in fact, it would most always be one of the earliest automobiles participating.

Overall it has a very charming presentation and would be warmly welcomed as a family touring vehicle, now offered for sale for the first time in three generations!
