265 bhp, 4,235 cc DOHC inline six-cylinder engine with twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 96 in.

The aptly named “Series 1½” E-Type was introduced before the advent of the second generation of Jaguar’s brilliant E-Type. It combines the 4.2-liter engine and handsome body style with its predecessor, while also incorporating many changes more commonly associated with its successor. These changes included twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, twin cooling fans, adjustable seats, and, most notably, open headlights. The car also includes four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes, with the rear discs fitted next to the differential to reduce un-sprung weight, and most importantly, fully independent suspension on all four wheels.

The Roadster offered here is documented by its JDHT Certificate, a copy of which is on file, as having been originally built with the chassis, engine, gearbox, and body that it retains today. It was shipped to the United States and delivered on June 4, 1968, to Dr. Arturo F. Del Real. Very recently, it has undergone what the owner describes as a total restoration, during which the body was refinished in its original, correct colors of British Racing Green over a biscuit interior, its chrome wire wheels were shod in redline tires, and careful attention to detail and authenticity was given throughout the car. The owner notes that the engine, transmission, and rear axle were all completely dismantled and rebuilt. The car is accompanied by tools and a file of restoration documentation, which will be supplied by the owner at the time of sale.

This Series 1½ E-Type is an excellent automobile to show or drive, and it is a splendid example of one of the finest Jaguars to come out of Coventry.
