The 308 was quite sophisticated, particularly for its time, with a transverse mounted all-alloy four-cam V-8 engine, initially producing 255 horsepower. With four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, the car is extremely well balanced and offers taut handling along with a compliant ride. Introduced to great acclaim in Paris in 1975, the 308 GTB was joined in 1977 by a GTS variant, which features a removable roof panel that can be stored behind the seats and quarter windows that were replaced with attractive louvered panels.

The attractive 308 GTS presented here was sold new as an American specification example and is believed to have only three owners from new. The current owner’s husband purchased this example in 1987, and it is beautifully finished in red with a tan interior. The owner reports that this car has been serviced regularly since their ownership and ensures that it is used frequently in order to maintain its running and driving capability. Cosmetically, the body is reported to be very correct and straight and shows no major damage, corrosion or areas of concern. There are some slight imperfections in the paint with surface rust reported in a few areas and some fine scratching. The interior is nicely presented overall, and the seats show a lovely patina that is sought after by collectors who prefer originality. The carpets show some wear and slight staining yet no major damage. The dash is in good condition, and all gauges are reported to be fully functional. There are 58,640 miles showing on the odometer, which are believed to be original. In preparation for the sale, the vendor recently serviced the car. The belts and timing chains were not replaced, however, as they were reported to be in fine running order.

The 308 GTS is a cultural icon of Pininfarina design, and the sale of this highly original example from long-term ownership represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of these Gran Turismo models.
