The Series 70 comprised the Model 70 and 75 Cadillacs and represented the manufacturer’s line of full-sized V-8-powered cars since the 1930s. In 1938 the shorter wheelbase Series 70 was replaced by the Series 60, and the Series 75 was incorporated into the distinguished Fleetwood line of cars.

The Fleetwood Body Company was formed in its namesake town in Pennsylvania in 1909. As an independent coachbuilder with a reputation of prestige, Fleetwood creations found their way onto the marquee chassis of their day like Duesenberg, Isotta Fraschini, Rolls-Royce and Packard. The firm was purchased by the Fisher Body company in 1925 and moved to Detroit in 1931 so that it could be more closely integrated with the burgeoning General Motors empire.

This highly original 1947 Cadillac Series 75 Limousine is one of only a small number produced. It is a very nicely preserved, largely original example with lovely paint and a barely worn original tan cloth interior. The odometer shows approximately 50,000 miles, which are believed to be original as well. The black front seat leather and interior are barely worn and highly detailed. It is very unusual for original cars to survive with this quality of preservation, and in this case it is probably due to the fact that this particular Cadillac served in the beginning of its life on the famous Embassy Row in Washington, D.C. A chauffeur was most likely entrusted with the care of the vehicle as well as its important passengers, and it likely received regular mechanical and cosmetic maintenance to assure its availability at the ready. It still retains its original spotlight and siren as well as the accessory sombrero-style full hubcaps. This 1947 Cadillac Series 75 won an AACA Preservation Award and would be a welcome Preservation Class entrant at shows around the country.
