There is a reason that the ’41 Cadillac Convertible Coupe is one of the most desirable cars for use on the Classic Car Club of America’s CARavan tours. To drivers accustomed to the heavy steering and handling of older vehicles, the ’41 Cadillac is a breath of fresh air. Steering is accomplished with the palm of the hand, while the clutch action and shift mechanism are silky smooth. By 1941 Cadillac’s venerable flathead V-8 had been honed to perfection, providing abundant torque, plenty of horsepower and virtually silent operation.
The design is the epitome of tasteful, modern aesthetics. The concept of styling the front of the car as a unit was new and the result very modern to contemporary eyes. A bright egg-crate grille widened the already imposing front end, while a modern clamshell hood improved access and provided a place for Cadillac’s distinguished Goddess of Speed.
This example was purchased new by a gentleman in Monterey, California and resided with him until some time in the 1990s with 44,000 original miles on the odometer. Its subsequent owner commissioned a full professional restoration in the original black with black cloth top, using the unmolested original as a template. The grey leather front seat has been recovered, but the rear leather and door panels are original with a very pleasing appearance. Having always been a solid and complete car, it was restored for show and tour and today has excellent paint and chrome and only the slightest evidence of use. The chassis likewise was meticulously restored to as-new condition and displays only the lightest signs of wear. It is nicely optioned with the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, amber fog lights, trim rings and hub caps, fender skirts, push-button radio and dual heaters and defrosters. It also comes with the original bill of sale and tools.
