Chevrolets for 1940 featured new styling called “Royal Clipper,” with a front-opening “alligator” hood and a delicate grille and trim. Sealed beam headlamps called for separate parking lights, which were gently placed atop the front fenders. The top-line Special DeLuxe featured stainless steel exterior trim and an upgraded interior with a DeLuxe steering wheel, dashboard clock, and arm rests in the doors.

This is one of the desirable town sedans that led sales of four-door sport sedans in all three Chevrolet series. It is an older restoration that still presents well. On close inspection, the red paint shows its age, and the seat upholstery exhibits some slight wear and staining. The dashboard brightwork is in need of detailing, although the odometer shows fewer than 7,000 miles. There have been some inauthentic modifications to the electrical and cooling systems, presumably in the interest of trouble-free touring. In all, it is a car that can be immediately enjoyed while being selectively upgraded.
