295 hp, 354 cu. in. Spitfire Poly V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor, three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, independent front suspension with torsion bars, rear longitudinal leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel power-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 126 in.

The Chryslers of 1957 were cloaked in an all-new styling that had been designed by Mopar’s Virgil Exner. The minds at Highland Park referred to it simply as “Flite-Sweep,” and one thing known for sure about this styling is that it created quite the stir. Chrysler, who in the past was known for its conservative styling, was instantly at the forefront of automotive design. Ads of the day said it best, “Suddenly it’s 1960.” The bold rear fins rendered all competitors obsolete, and the lack of extravagant chrome gave the new models a classic elegance that still looks great nearly 60 years later. Along with the new styling, three engineering developments were also highlighted on the 1957 Chryslers. These included the availability of a new three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, “TorsionAire” suspension comprised of front torsion bars, and, of course, an even more powerful Hemi/Poly engine.

The Chrysler Saratogas made every bit the stylistic statement of their top-of-the-line New Yorker siblings. In 1957, the Saratoga series drew more than 37,000 orders, including 10,633 hardtop coupes, like this beauty, which had a base price of $3,754 before options. This exceedingly nice example was finished in the factory-correct scheme of Jet Black and Cloud White two-tone, and it has just 33,000 documented original miles. The consigner also notes that 100 percent of the original sheet metal was used in preparing the car. It is nicely equipped with factory options and has recently been restored to exacting standards.

Power is supplied by a 295-horsepower, 354-cubic inch Poly V-8 that has a four-barrel carburetor and three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission with pushbutton controls, providing plenty of oomph for modern-day driving. Power steering and brakes, a working factory AM radio, dual mirrors, and quad headlights are also included. Inside, one will find that all of the gauges are highlighted by red instrument binnacles and are in working order, and the original steering wheel is still present. The upholstery is in beautiful condition, and the headliner is finished with lovely chrome roof bows.

This Saratoga has also been fitted with period-correct BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall four-ply tires on Chrysler wire wheels. In the trunk is the original spare, which has yet to be used. The consigner notes that a new dual exhaust has been fitted, as well as a new gas tank with fresh lines, and the brakes and suspension have been completely rebuilt. Most recently, a correct battery has been installed, along with such details as hoses and wiring, as per original.

This car has been shown very little since completion, making it a perfect candidate for the concours and show circuit. It did win a class award at the 2013 LaJolla Concours d’Elegance, and at the 2014 HASSIE All-Original Car Show in Spokane, Washington, it won a Best of Show award.
