This 356B Cabriolet retains its matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body and features the desirable “T-6” body type and high-output 1600S engine. It is finished in its extremely rare original color scheme of Smyrna Green with Light Brown leather upholstery and a matching top. It was imported new to the United States by Jacksonville, Florida’s Brumos Car Corporation and delivered to Cutler Motors of Sarasota on September 17, 1962 prior to being purchased by its first owner. In February 1992, the Porsche was purchased by the long-term current owner, a 356 Registry member who treated it to an incremental restoration over the next two decades.

Starting in 1999, the original floor pans and battery box were replaced, the interior was restored using correct German square-weave carpeting and leather seats by Autos International, who also restored the cabriolet top, and seat headrests were added. In 2007, the door bottoms and lower outer door skins were replaced by Vintage Motor Restorations, along with some other minor bodywork, the car was fully refinished with Sikkens Base/Clear matched to an original paint sample, new rubber seals were installed, and chrome was refurbished as necessary.

The original six-volt electrics and wiring harness were retained, but numerous electrical improvements include Hella 128 fog lights with an NOS dash switch and LED instrument and brake/turn signal lights. Mechanical work over the past 10 years includes a rebuilt transaxle, NOS rear brake drums, a freshly rebuilt brake system with a dual master cylinder and more. The engine was rebuilt in 1985 and has approximately 30,000 miles of use and good compression. The powder-coated wheels include correct stems and support wires and are shod with Michelin tires.

The Porsche is complete with a correct toolkit with the original bag and tools with the sole exception of reproduction screwdrivers. Also included are the owner’s manual, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and extensive paperwork including copies of prior titles issued by the Florida DMV dating back to the car’s original owner. Displayed at the 2008 Charlotte, North Carolina Porsche Parade and carefully maintained and driven some 20,000 miles over the past two decades of single ownership, including multiple 356 Registry holidays, this high-specification 356B 1600S Cabriolet is a highly desirable example.
