The 1970 model year was the peak of the muscle car era. A new decade saw the end of the General Motors corporate directive prohibiting engines with displacements more than 400 cubic inches being placed in intermediate models, which included the Chevrolet Chevelle. Dropping this directive led to nearly every model and body class being offered with a performance option. Arguably the king of the muscle car era, Chevrolet’s 1970 Chevelle SS.

Originally finished at GM’s Baltimore plant in February 1970, this Tuxedo Black over Black vinyl Chevelle SS was delivered new to West End Chevrolet in Waltham, Massachusetts. The car’s accompanying build sheet denotes many desirable factory options, including tinted glass, power windows, roof drip moldings, rear wheel fender moldings, a black vinyl top, center console, hood and deck stripes, power steering, power brakes with discs at front, a heavy-duty battery, an electric clock, radio, special duct hood, three-speed automatic 4:10 Positraction rear axle, performance exhaust, glovebox light, SS gauge pack, bucket seats, and Chevrolet’s interesting Astro-Ventilation air-vent system. Importantly, the car's original build sheet confirms that it was fitted from the factory with the SS 454-cubic-inch big-block LS6 V-8 engine. It is now equipped with a period-correct 454-cubic-inch big-block V-8.

During the early 2010s, this Chevelle was treated to an outstanding, award-winning restoration that remains incredibly well-preserved today. Resplendent in its factory-correct color combination and replete with authentic factory options, the quality of its presentation speaks to the high level of workmanship.

Since its acquisition by Ron Jury in 2016, the car has been exhibited at a variety of Antique Automobile Club of America competitions. It won a National First Prize in 2017 and was a Grand National winner in 2019.
