The Laffly S25T 6x6, 4-ton Prime Mover entered production in 1939. Laffly and Hotchkiss were pioneers of French high-mobility, light and medium six-wheel drive cross-country vehicles. The Lafflys were considered to be very advanced designs. They were based, in part, on the Austrian ADG design of Austro-Daimler. The Laffly S25T utilized a four-speed gearbox in conjunction with dual-range transfer boxes and hub reduction gearing. Drive was by individual propeller shafts and there was independent suspension on the rear wheels. The suspension was of the leaf spring type on all six wheels. The brakes were mechanical type with servo assistance. The Laffly S25T had a bumper wheel assembly at the front of the chassis. This unique French design protected the radiator and drivetrain and prevented the vehicle from digging its nose into the ground. The Laffly S25T was designed as a tractor for the French Model 1936 105-mm field gun along with the ammunition and gun crew. A number of the 6x6 Laffly models were exported to Afghanistan, Persia and Greece. Only about 100 S25Ts were built and most had box-van bodies. Most were captured and used by the German Army after the occupation of 1940.
