Gastaud et Raibaut for Maison Bodson (Paris, France)

This delightful instrument features animated characters representing famous musician Tino Rossi playing a Hohner accordion and a drummer playing the snare drum, bass drum and cymbal. Paper rolls control the accordion and percussion. A cam mechanism operates the animated figures' motions, including realistic movements of their heads, eyes, eyebrows, hands and fingers. Instruments of this general type, by various makers during the Jazz Age, are scarce. Several can be found in collections in Europe, with fewer in the United States. Restored and in excellent playing condition. 60x78x48 inches.
