J.P. Seeburg Piano Co. (Chicago, Illinois)

Among the orchestrions made in Chicago by the J.P. Seeburg Piano Company, the E Special is one of the rarest today. It has the instrumentation of the cabinet model KT Special but in a keyboard-style piano. Instruments include piano with expression and mandolin attachment, reiterating xylophone, bass drum with tympani effect, snare drum, cymbal, triangle, wood block, castanets and tambourine. It plays from style G or 4X music rolls, of which a good supply of re-cuts is available.

This model was only produced from 1925 through 1928, and this particular example was built in 1927. It combines the lively sound of a KT Special with the tone quality of a full-size keyboard piano. One of only a few dozen known to exist, it was acquired from the John Maxwell estate in 1997 after having been restored in California. There is slight damage to the leaded glass, which is easily repairable. 63x58x32 inches.
