The XR750 was first produced in 1970 with an iron cylinder and head design similar to the Sportster top end. In 1972, the factory redesigned the motor to the updated aluminum alloy top end which proved to be able to sustain the high speeds and stress much better than the previous iron head top end. In 1980, the factory ended the sale of the complete motorcycle and just offered the motors for the dirt track series as all of the privateer racers opted to go with special frame designs and discarded the factory frame. This beautiful racer has been cosmetically restored and the motor has been detailed but not rebuilt.
