A single sheet of Bentley Motors Ltd headed paper with 1919 watermark, 15 lines discussing a sump, gear ratios and reference to two very historic events in the history of Bentley Motors. Firstly, an experimental drive in Bentley EXP1 at the Aston Clinton Hillclimb, 18 January 1920, with the prophetic remark, “we won’t do so badly”. Secondly, a reference to a claim made by W.O. to the Royal Commission on Awards for the invention of the B.R.1 and B.R.2 Aero Engines. W.O. was awarded £8,000 by the Commission but the Inland Revenue insisted that the claim was taxable - they capitulated a few days before the case was due to be heard in court.

The letter 25 x 20cm is signed by W.O. Bentley in black ink.
