In 1986, Mercedes-Benz introduced the most powerful version of the SL, the 560SL. The introduction was made in large part to counteract the number of people importing the European spec 500SLs to the United States. Built on Mercedes-Benz’s famed R107 chassis, the car offered impressive performance with the new V-8 producing 227-hp. The car was capable of a 7.5-second, 0- to 60-mph time as well as a top speed of 130-mph; both impressive for the time period. Mercedes-Benz produced the 560SL from 1986 to 1989.
