As the second evolution of the Porsche 356A began to age, Porsche sought to keep its customers engaged. The 356A Convertible D was born, the latter part of its nomenclature signifying Karosseriewerke Drauz, which supplied its body. Inspired by American importer Max Hoffman’s claim to fame, the Speedster, the Convertible D was more civilized and usable with a few additional creature comforts and a slightly less hunkered-down top.
The 356A Convertible D offered here is finished in its correct Ruby Red paint over light brown. It presents well, retaining sealed beam headlamps with rock guards and correct American-market bumpers. Its original Drauz number plate is attached and the car is currently powered by a later 1,600-cc flat four-cylinder. The car’s original block is included in the sale. Pirelli tires wrap all four of its wheels with chrome Porsche hubcaps. A black top has been fitted and, when tucked away, is covered by a light brown boot. A truly stunning example, this is an excellent opportunity to own a beautiful 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D.
