As one of America’s most expensive luxury cars at the time, the 1993 Cadillac Allante represents the height of the series. Produced from 1987 to 1993 and equipped with the then-new Northstar V-8 engine - the beautiful Pininfarina-designed cars were America’s answer to the sports roadsters of Europe. Each limited production unit was shipped via a modified Boeing 747 and was tested by engineers who were required to sign off on each vehicle. Production was limited to just 21,000 similar cars produced over the seven-year production run, with 4,670 being built in the 1993 model year.
With a sticker price of just over $60,000, the Allante was priced below a comparable Jaguar or Mercedes. Regrettably, it was economics that killed Allante, not the car itself, which reached the point in 1993 where it was absolutely a leader among any vehicles in the world in performance, handling, image and presence.
This example is finished in White Diamond, an extra charge pearlescent, with a maroon leather interior and black soft-top. This final year Allante sports the 4.6-liter, 290-hp V-8 engine and an automatic transmission. Among the features are air conditioning, chromed alloy wheels, radio with cassette player, cruise control; power steering, anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes, windows, door locks, top, heated sideview mirrors, antenna and seats.
The Cadillac Allante continues to be a fine American convertible that seamlessly combined the optimum in period American luxury and tradition with the ultimate in period Italian design.
