In period, there was the presence of the mass-produced vehicle, just as today. A hand-built car of limited production could still hold its own and compete in world markets…surely a sign of greatness. With a basic design that was 15-years old in 1964, the first concept of the Porsche automobile was continuously refined to reach the 1964 state of maturity. Just as now, the original pure, functional lines remained virtually unchanged…still simple, clean, timeless and ageless.
Produced from 1948 to 1965, the Porsche 356 was an exceedingly capable lightweight rear-engined offering that continues to inspire enthusiasts to this day. Disc brakes finally arrived with the 356C in 1964 along with the most powerful pushrod engine yet, the 95-hp SC. Driving a Porsche is high adventure. Seated in the exact center of gravity and positioned in well-fitted bucket seats, the excitement of true Gran Turismo driving is at your fingertips. Controls are all within easy reach.
This particular car displays the emblems that indicate it to originally be one of the desirable SC models. According to the associated paperwork sent in with this particular Porsche; this car is powered by a later 912 block (internal number 616/40) and is a capable driver with a slightly more powerful, but very similar engine to the traditional SC. The horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and it has been owned by the current private collection out of South Florida for the last five years.
The Porsche was purchased out of Georgia and the owner had both the engine and transmission rebuilt, along with new paint work in a very attractive color combination of Porsche Bali Blue over tan leatherette interior. Additional equipment includes VDO instrumentation, Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, fold-down rear seats, spare, jack, Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, factory wheels and caps. There is also a 356 Registry badge on the engine cover grille.
Comfortable and safe, in fast curves, on the straights, on rough roads or smooth, a day’s time of Porsche driving will leave you longing for more.
