The 560SL was the final and most refined version of the R107 body style. It was made from 1986 to 1989 and was the most powerful and developed of the Mercedes-Benz R107 chassis, which began with the introduction of the 450SL in 1973. By 1986, the V-8 engine had been enlarged, guaranteeing a 0- to 60-mph time of 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 130-mph.

The 560SL, dubbed the “German Corvette” by a journalist because of its two-seat interior and highway performance, thankfully did not suffer the quality issues of the latter in period. The 560SL rides smoothly and quietly, sheltering the two occupants in amply proportioned leather bucket seats, and offers safe, predictable handling. 1989 was the final year for this body style and for 1990; the classic lines of the R107 had been replaced with updated styling.

Finished in Cranberry metallic with saddle tan leather, this fine example, it is reported, has been sparingly used and runs strong with its 5.6-liter, 227-hp V-8 engine and automatic transmission. Along with the soft-top, this car has a factory accessory removable hardtop, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control; power steering and four-wheel disc brakes. The car is with just its second owner and has its original paint. The 560SL has seen storage time in a heated, climate controlled garage. Simplicity, superb build quality and an enduring design are all symbols of the Mercedes 560SL.
