This Corvette is very unique in the fact that it retains the original 454-cid V-8 with a four-speed transmission that was given the speed guarantee of 11.5 seconds in the quarter mile. It also carries a second guarantee offered by Motion; with the extremely rare Hone overdrive installed this car was given a guarantee to cruise at 120mph with the overdrive engaged.

This stunning example has only 15,000 miles from new and it remains completely unrestored and immaculate. It has over 20 Motion “Phase III” options, which include the 454-cid Motion engine, four-speed transmission with rare Hone overdrive and Posi-traction rear end with “Superbite” traction bars. Other “Phase III” performance parts include: SEMA approved clutch, Edelbrock intake, competition shocks, Holley carburetor, Fly-eye air cleaner, dual-point tach-drive distributor, Mallory rev-limiter, Hurst line-loc, Hurst shifter, Dupree dual electronic fuel pumps, GT gas cap, Phase III hood with locks, Phase III side exhaust with headers and custom wheels.

This Motion Phase III is fully documented with Protect-O-Plate, tank sticker, complete ownership history and a letter of authenticity from Joel Rosen and Motion Performance, Inc.. This Corvette is signed by both Joel Rosen and Marty Schorr and is included in “Motion Performance: Tales of a Muscle Car Builder” written by Marty Schorr and published in 2009. These cars were built to race and it is a miracle that one could survive and remain untouched.

Motion Performance started life as Neclan Service Station in Brooklyn, New York in the late 1950s. In 1963, after owner Joel Rosen installed a Clayton chassis dynamometer, signage was changed to reflect the true nature of his business. In 1966, Rosen relocated Motion Performance to Baldwin, New York.

All Motion sales materials carried a message from Joel Rosen, “We think so much of our Phase III supercars that we guarantee they will turn at least 120mph in 11.50 seconds or better with an M/P-approved driver on an AHRA or NHRA sanctioned drag strip. Phase III supercars are completely streetable, reliable machines that will run these times off the street.”

Between 1967 and 1974, approximately 500 Motion-branded ultra-high performance specialty cars were built for both domestic and export deliveries. Records reveal that cars were shipped to customers in Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, in addition to deliveries in Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.

Exterior paint trim and badging on SS and Phase III Motion cars was unique. A full selection of decorative, as well as high-performance chassis and engine options were available. This enabled a purchaser to order exactly what he or she wanted on a brand new Chevy. Popular options included three two-barrel Holley carbs, high-rise aluminum manifolds, Phase III CD ignition, Hone auxiliary overdrive transmission, scooped hoods, mag wheels, headers and outside exhausts, et cetera.
