Replacing the outgoing Silver Cloud, the Silver Shadow was significant for Rolls Royce in a number of ways. Going to a unibody style of construction enabled the storied automaker to design a car that while slighter shorter and narrower than its predecessor, it still offered greater room for passengers and luggage. It also brought standard disc brakes and independent rear suspension to the Rolls buyer but perhaps the most remarkable feature was the hydraulic self levelling suspension. A car already renowned for its luxurious ride quality was now even better.
