Most automotive historians accept that Karl Benz was the first to market an automobile powered by internal combustion. As early as 1885 he made a single-cylinder engine and placed it into a carriage custom designed for it. The first Benz was a three-wheeled affair and could reach a speed of eight miles per hour. Technical innovations included electric ignition, mechanical valves and differential gearing. Benz continually improved his Motorwagen and patented it in 1886. He sold his first one in 1887, beginning a long history of German automotive innovation and excellence. The Motorwagen offered here is an exact replica and in immaculate condition.
