Its previous owner had set out to build a first generation RS/SS convertible Camaro that could cruise down the highway at 70-mph plus with ease and have the power of any late model Shelby Mustang or post 2007 Z06 Corvette on engine alone. It had to be reliable, idle well and run on pump gas.

The Camaro was purchased back in 2008, and it was disassembled, media blasted, and was painted base clear PPG CODE 28 Fathom Blue with new black interior. A full built SBC 410-cid engine was installed with aluminum Dart 220 fully-flowed heads. The engine features a roller cam and lifters with internal heat and lube coating, Stef’s Oil Pan, and H-beam rods. It has produced 586 dyno -proven horsepower and is completely documented with specifications, dyno sheets and receipts. The engine cost alone was $14,000 and it idles at 800 rpm with 12-inches of vacuum, and "pulls like a freight train."

It had to be able to easily cruise with traffic, so a new Tremec TKO 600 manual-shift five-speed overdrive transmission was installed. It was purchased from Keisler Engineering and was specifically built and retrofitted for this RS/SS Camaro.

As far as period correct, the car has power steering, brakes, top, an original walnut steering wheel, AM radio, and a 12-bolt 3:31.1 positive traction rear end differential. It has a new period correct brass four row radiator so it never runs warm.

This Pro Touring Convertible has the best of both worlds with the drivability of a modern warrior and the nostalgia of a classic favorite. It would be enjoyed by any automotive enthusiast or make for a fine piece in a car collection.
