This midget was built by the East Coast’s premier midget car builder, Herman Hillegass, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. During its racing career it ran #3 and participated in the first annual Midget 500 lap classic at the Islip Speedway on Long Island, New York. Number 3, while being driven by “Handsome Harry” Brown, managed a 17th place finish out of the field of 26.

After decades of storage, the car was found and restored in the early 90s by Deek Scott of Wexford, Pennsylvania. His father Herb was a local stock car racing champion, winning 520 feature events and being inducted into the National Dirt Track Hall of Fame. With the help of noted racing historian Jim Etter, as well as his father, Deek authentically restored this Hillegass Midget using only original period accessories including: Franklin Steering, Hills-McKenna Wheels, Progressive Rear-End, correct Belond Exhaust Headers, Houdaille Lever shocks, and more. The cars desirable Ford V-8 60 was totally rebuilt and fitted with Eddie Meyer “Holly” finned aluminum heads. Although the car was built to run, it has never been started and has remained on static museum display. Should the next owner choose to participate in vintage racing the car should be easily put back into service.
