Jaguar’s 1959 Mark II was a significantly updated and improved version of the Mark I of 1955. The new car had bigger side and rear windows framed in chrome trim, a new grille with a center bar and integrated foglamps. Although the sweeping lines of the Mark I were preserved, the rear track was widened.

The interior was a thing of beauty and featured a walnut veneer dash, a huge speedometer and tachometer, a row of toggle switches in the center and comfortable leather seats. Reclining front seats were optional, as were the picnic tables for the rear passengers.

The DOHC aluminum six-cylinder engines were still utilized and could be found in 2.4-, 3.4-, and 3.8-liter displacement. The large Jaguar 3.8-liter DOHC engine was shared with the Mark IX and XK 150 and made the car the fastest four-door production sedan available.

The proven four-wheel disc brakes from the D-Type and were standard. Jaguar was so proud of this that a red caution triangle and the words “disc brakes” were incorporated into the rear bumper trim.

The Mark II offered has recently been the recipient of extensive services including new suspension bushings, exhaust, U-joints, bearings, seals and a new fuel pump. The braking system, engine, hydraulics, carburetors and distributor have been rebuilt and a new aluminum radiator was added to ensure effective cooling. In addition to the mechanical servicing, the bumpers were rechromed, new carpet overlays with heel pads were added, and new tires were fitted.

The 3.8-liter, overdrive-equipped Mark II was a top-of-the-line car at the time and importantly, the patina and character of this example has been preserved instead of replaced. Much of the original wood, leather, and other finishes remain and present well. The black paint has been detailed, wet sanded and buffed to have an even shine throughout.
