With the debut of Jaguar’s sensational new sports car, the E-Type, at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar had once again proven to the world that it could build an incredible performance car with looks to match. From the moment of its introduction, dealers could hardly keep their E-Types on the showroom floor. The car was universally and exaltedly praised by many people (notably, Enzo Ferrari himself), remarking that it was the best-looking car ever made.
The E-Type was intended as the next generation replacement to Jaguar’s XK 120-150 series of sports cars, and it was the culmination of lessons learned from that series in road use, as well as from lessons learned in the heat of competition with the revolutionary D-Type sports racer. It was initially powered by Jaguar’s venerable 3.8-liter, straight six-cylinder engine, but was increased to 4.2-liters in late 1964. Horsepower was rated at a respectable 265, and it could muster a top speed of 150-mph. The E-Type was also equipped with a modern independent rear suspension that masterfully mixed precise handling, comfort and grip.
1967 E-Types combine the favorable performance and ease of use of the Series II with the timeless look of the Series I. Increasing regulations required Jaguar to uncover the headlights and replace the toggle switches for 1968.
This E-Type is finished in the stunning color combination of dark blue with red interior and has been the subject of recent restoration work. A Jaguar specialist completed a full restoration a few years ago and the car has since undergone a comprehensive service during the ownership of the consignor. The dark blue soft-top and chrome wire wheels add to the striking presentation. This is the ideal E-Type Roadster to drive and enjoy, and combines the best aspects of the Series I and II.
