The design of the Jaguar XK8 is undoubtedly derived from the legendary XK-E body (E-Type) sports car of the ā60s. The XK8 design was unveiled in 1997 and the rear-wheel drive sports Jag intended to improve upon the previous XJS model. Jaguar claimed the XK8 had a 25-percent increase in body stiffness over its predecessor. Additionally, this car was the platform for which Jaguar introduced their newly configured 4.0-liter V-8 engine with twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The novel console-mounted āJā gate gives the driver the option of taking control of the gears that control the roaring powerplant, or selecting to enjoy the comfort of an automatic transmission.
