Few cars are as iconic as a 1967 Corvette Sting Ray. Fluid lines, power and prestige have followed the cars from the time they were built, and there will likely be no slowing their rise in value and popularity. We have the one to consider, enjoy and keep right here; this true 427 convertible with a four-speed and side exhaust that is documented by its original tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate.

Simply having a tank sticker is a good sign, well-used cars are usually missing theirs so you can surmise this one was clean right from the start. The option list isn’t a long offering, but all of the right boxes were checked off. The catalog includes 19467 Corvette convertible in 983 Goodwood Green with 430 Green vinyl interior. The car is powered by a L36 427-cid, 390-hp Turbo-Jet V-8 engine mated to a M21 close-ratio four-speed transmission and G81 Posi-traction axle with a 3.70:1 ratio. Additional equipment includes K66 transistorized ignition, A01 Soft-Ray tinted glass, all windows, N14 side mount exhaust system, N40 power steering, C05 convertible top, white, C07 auxiliary hardtop and P92 7.75×15 white sidewall tires.

Being a true big block, four speed, Posi-traction convertible with side exhaust is a claim not many Corvettes can exceed from a rarity or a desirability standpoint.

According to the original warranty booklet the car was sold new at Prout Chevrolet in Elyria, Ohio. The original Protect-O-Plate shows the owner to be local man, Dennis Mileti, who picked his car up on March 16. The documentation corresponds to the body, the LH code 427/390 and the M21 underneath. The original owner’s manual is also included.

Options and paperwork are important, but so is the driving experience and this Corvette is reported to excel at it. No odd noises come from the driveline or chassis, the steering, brakes and clutch are perfect, the seats are comfortable and the motor makes plenty of power. The side pipes herald the cars arrival with style and a very authoritative tone, and the car firmly holds the road as well.Fewer than 100 miles have rolled onto the odometer since restoration.

Sighting down the mint original body you’ll see the 34,200 miles on the odometer is correct, there are simply no flaws that a ton of driving can’t hide. The paint is as close to flawless as it gets on a Corvette, with excellent prep work below the final finish. Gaps and panel fits far exceed new and the white stinger stripe on the hood matches the top and the redlines on the new reproduction tires for a unified look.

Moving on to the mint interior, all you can do is gasp when you take it in newly recovered seats and seat foams, new carpet, new door panels, a restored dash pad, restored seatbelts and a restored instrument cluster garner your attention. Everywhere you look, you see perfect original or restored pieces, as seen with the steering wheel. All instrumentation operates properly, and additionally every piece of chrome and stainless in the interior of this Corvette is like new.

On a lift you’ll see the fruits of the frame-off restorations labor. Suspensions front and rear are refurbished and are like-new in operation and appearance. The side exhaust is new, as is the fuel system. The frame and floorpans are both as clean as new. The original transmission and FA-code rear end have been gone through, and neither issues any noises nor complaints when called upon.

Open the hood to find details large and small. The largest would be the correct IL-code 427 mill, rebuilt and dressed in fresh Chevrolet Orange paint. From the chrome air cleaner to the spring clamps on the reproduction battery this is a highly detailed, highly correct powerplant. The Holley list 3811 carb sits atop the original 3888948 intake manifold; new reproduction radiator and heater hoses connect to the re-cored radiator. This 427 looks better than new, and it drives better than it looks.
