Chassis no. I5806

302.2-cid, 109-hp inline L-head eight-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with free-wheeling, solid front axle and live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel mechanical drum brakes. Wheelbase: 126-inches

Among the first American firms to become clients of the French designer Raymond Loewy, Hupmobile transformed its 1932 models with his form-fitting “cycle” fenders and chrome wheel discs. The effect was broadened in 1933 with a gently-sloped grille.

This eight-cylinder I-326, the top of the 1933 line, carries an older amateur restoration. Age is taking its toll and surface rust has crept into the undercarriage, and the brightwork has numerous pits. The grille, a high point on this model, has been inexpertly repaired with screen wire. The interior is generally clean, the seats upholstered in an unusual streaked red fabric. The very fragile “H-in-a-ring” hood ornament, however is intact. A potentially good driver as is, it really deserves a new restoration.
