- Built by GM for Disneyland
- Features high powered Pioneer sound system built into Supercharger
- Module had demos of DVD navigation, Pioneer’s entertainment products and Disney video games
Built by General Motors for Disneyland, this innovative display module is constructed from a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air four-door sedan. It has a complete nose, rear section and instrument panel, and bench seats in the correct 1957 upholstery pattern. Protruding from the hood is a Pioneer high-powered sound system, configured to resemble a belt-driven supercharger. The instrument panel is intact in its original configuration, surmounted with a small video display. There are additional displays in the back side of the front seat and the side panels of the trunk space, which also has seats for two. Underneath, the car appears to have complete suspension and is fitted with whitewall tires.
As built, the module had demos of DVD navigation, Pioneer’s entertainment products and Disney video games. It would make an excellent basis for constructing a state-of-the-art interactive exhibit using modern displays, processing and applications software, perhaps a driving simulator in which young people could take their friends on a pretend journey. The static part of the display is in excellent condition, and would likely need little renovation to be put into service.
