Body no. 63

390-cid, 345-hp OHV V-8 engine, four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, independent front suspension and live rear axle with aftermarket air springs, and four-wheel power hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 149.75-inches

A clipping in this car’s history file indicates that it was ordered by the chairman of the board of Standard Oil as an anniversary present for his wife. The chairman at that time was Monroe Jackson “Jack” Rathbone, Jr., a descendant of Andrew Jackson and great grandfather of actor Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga and The Last Airbender). Subsequently, the car was owned by Edward Cavanaugh, a professor at the University of Illinois, who took it to southern California with him in retirement.

In unrestored condition, it is largely untouched but has suffered somewhat from long term storage, particularly in the interior. The paint has aged significantly and shows some pits and scratches, but the brightwork is surprisingly good. It has all the Brougham equipment, power windows, air conditioning, power seat, Wonderbar radio, cruise control and windshield washers, as well as the standard power steering and brakes. At some point the original central air suspension was replaced with separate air shock absorber units. It currently carries California black plate WIB410.

One of just 101 Eldorado Broughams produced in Italy by Ghia for 1960, it can easily be recommissioned for use, although significant work will be required on the interior.
