This beautifully presented Dino 246 GT benefits from two long-term ownerships, the latter of which saw the car sympathetically restored to its original color combination, resulting in a particularly authentic example. According to marque expert Marcel Massini, chassis number 03090 was specified for the US market and finished in Rosso Rubino paint over a beige leather interior, a particularly elegant color combination.
After completing assembly in December 1971, the Ferrari was delivered to Luigi Chinetti Motors a month later. By 1974, the Dino was acquired by a Mr. Bongiorno of New York City, and he maintained ownership through early 1976. In May 1976 the Dino was sold to a Massachusetts-based enthusiast named John Nargesian, and his family retained possession of the car through May 2002, a remarkable period of 26 years.
The Ferrari was then acquired by the consignor, a Canadian collector and former licensed mechanic with experience working on European sports and racing cars. Over the next 20 years, the owner sympathetically restored the car to its currently beautiful state of presentation. His work included rebuilding the suspension and carburetors, setting the valves, and installing a new fuel pump, as confirmed by a maintenance logbook on file spanning 2002 to 2023.
The owner initially repainted the car in Rosso, but in 2022 he commissioned a refinish in the proper factory-original color of Rosso Rubino. The windshield was replaced, but all other glass is believed to remain original, as it displays proper logos. While the “mouse hair” dashboard and the carpeting remain original, the consignor opted to re-trim the seats in full beige leather. The restoration was then capped with new Michelin XWX tires and a period-correct Blaupunkt radio.
The consignor exhibited the Ferrari at several local car shows, where the Dino was regularly awarded, including class wins at regional FCA meets in 2016 and 2017. Still accompanied by the rare Dino-badged key fob, and currently displaying a modest figure of 45,817 miles on the odometer, this 246 GT also desirably retains its matching-numbers engine, gearbox, and body, per stampings that correspond to factory data.
Now offered from almost 23 years of fastidious care, and claiming an uninterrupted chain of three owners dating to 1974, this beautifully restored Ferrari exudes sporting flare in its sublime original livery of Rosso Rubino over Beige. The fetching Dino would make a fantastic addition to any sporting collection, epitomizing the dynamic design of Maranello’s celebrated V-6 model.
