Following the successful earlier SL models, Mercedes launched a whole new range of sports/SL models in the 1960s, starting with the 230SL in 1963. The 1966 250SL had a beautifully proportioned sports body with two comfortable seats and could be fitted with a distinctive “Pagoda Roof” removable hardtop. A 2+2 arrangement was introduced with the 250SL "California” which had a fold-down rear bench seat instead of the soft-top. This car is reported to be equipped with this quite uncommon setup.
The 250SL used a 2,496-cc, six-cylinder engine which featured fuel injection and could even be ordered with either a manual or automatic transmission. These attractive "SL" sports cars were highly regarded when new and have remained sought-after classics ever since the last models were built in 1971.
This Mercedes-Benz 250SL is equipped with a desirable four-speed manual transmission and also features period-correct (and working) air conditioning. Overall; the “Pagoda” is stated to be in “superb condition” and has been sparingly driven. The car is said to be in primarily original condition. Foglights and a Becker Mexico radio with cassette are also part of this popular and well-respected German platform.
