Some might go as far as to say that the Mercedes-Benz 280SL was the end of an era for the German automaker. The craftsmanship and unique ‘Pagoda’ body style of the 280 was the last model of this desirable roadster. The 280SL was built on the same chassis as the beloved 250SL and the 230SL. It quickly became the flagship roadster and one of the most enjoyed two-seaters on the road. Under the hood is a 2.8-liter straight six-cylinder engine that delivers 170 horsepower. The responsive acceleration suits this car for a classics rally. If you’re looking for a weekend cruiser, the four-speed automatic transmission makes it wonderfully relaxing to drive.
This particular car was restored in the mid-1990s to original specifications. It is finished in factory color Midnight Blue (904) over Parchment leather interior (255). Both the paint and interior are reported as being in very good condition. This is a well-equipped 280SL with both the soft-top and removable hardtop with rear window defroster on the hardtop, air conditioning, radio; power steering and brakes. There are many receipts and invoices that accompany the car which detail the restoration and recent mechanical service.
The comfortable and elegant interior makes this 280SL appealing and desirable to drive. In every way possible, this classic roadster is ready to deliver an exceptional driving experience in the fine Grand Touring tradition that Mercedes-Benz is known to offer.
