This fascinating vehicle is one of only 12 Futurliners built and used for GM’s “Parade of Progress”, the unique traveling show that previewed the company’s latest designs and technologies between 1940 and 1956. This unrestored example is one of the five Futurliners acquired and saved during the early 1980s by noted collector Joe Bortz, who in turn sold it to the current owner. Today, it remains the sole known Futurliner offered at auction since the restored example that sold for $4.3 million in 2006. This vehicle is considered the best of the five Futurliners owned and sold by Mr. Bortz in the 1980s, and it represents a truly unique opportunity to acquire and restore one of the greatest icons of American and GM marque history, all at a fraction of its projected value when restored. This Futurliner features most of its rare original trim and “Parade of Progress” side scripting, as well as the original “GM” front-end logo and a new Plexiglas windshield. Please note that this Futurliner is not currently running and will require complete restoration. At the auction, the Futurliner donated by Mr. Bortz to Auburn, Indiana’s National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (NATMUS, which has recently been restored, will be displayed alongside the unrestored vehicle offered here. Mr. Bortz will also participate in a seminar on Saturday morning, prior to the sale of this Futurliner.
