Chevrolet’s advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald, cleverly advertised the 1967 Corvette as “A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing” as well as “A Good Second-Hand Car,” referring to the Corvette’s 0- to 60-mph performance against the stop watch. Long considered to be the pinnacle evolution of the iconic Sting Ray, the 1967 model was the last of the C2 Corvettes. The styling team of Peter Brock, Bob Veryzer, Tony Lapine, Chuck Pohlman and Larry Shinoda, under the direction of Bill Mitchell, was responsible for notable refinements such as flat finish rocker panels sans ribbing, a new single backup light mounted above the license plate and distinctive six-inch slotted ‘Rally Wheels.’
In 1967 Chevrolet created one of the most sought after collectable Corvettes. This spectacular 427/437 coupe, is a one owner Protect-O-Plate documented car with only 48,000 actual miles. The Corvette is finished in Code 983 Goodwod Green with a Polar White “stinger” big-block hood, which is synonymous with this production year. The interior is seen with Code 420 Saddle interior. It comes supplied with its original Tri-power 427-cid, 435-hp V-8 engine and carries the unmistakable deep rumble of the acclaimed powerplant. The car has a desirable four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes. The interior is tailored with contour bucket seats, AM/FM radio, clock and center console. The drivetrain is reported as correct to the car.
The options include factory side exhaust, transistor ignition, the aforementioned original radio and a complete set of “DC”-coded Rally wheels with recent Coker Redline Radial tires. It exhibits a nicely detailed engine compartment with correct original Tri-power setup with proper air cleaner, original alternator, proper ignition shielding, braided spark plug wires, and correct hoses and clamps. Equally impressive is the interior with beautiful original dash pads on both sides; clean original gauges, dated seatbelts, plus immaculate seats, carpet and door panels. The original spare, jack and lug wrench are still neatly stowed in their proper compartments. It is further adorned with recent, high quality paint and chrome with fantastic fit and finish overall. The Corvette is very clean, and has a dry undercarriage with excellent original frame showing no sign of damage.
Chevrolet produced 22,940 Corvettes this model year, only 3,754 were equipped with the 427/435 option. The owner conveys that “this is the real deal.” The current owner knew about, and tried buying this car since the ‘70s and it’s been in its Ohio home all its life. This is truly an incredible piece of automotive history…the owner ponders: “how many real “one owner” 435’s with real engines are left?”
