The 1958-1960 Lincolns were the largest American cars built following the Second World War; they were opulent and audacious. They were the first Lincolns to receive full unitary construction. All examples were powered by a 430-cid, 315-hp V-8 engine with an automatic transmission.
This sophisticated black (code A) Lincoln Continental Mark V Convertible has a black power top and luxuriant red interior and is one of 2,044 examples made in 1960. It is reported that there are less than 500 surviving examples today.
Standard features on the Mark V included six-way power adjustable seats, tinted glass; power windows (including vents), antenna, steering and brakes. These cars also have the unique feature of a power rear window which raises or lowers at the touch of a control on the driver’s armrest. It is a distinctive touch and practical as well, providing refreshing ventilation which is nearly draft-free with the top up. The top in the lowered position is extremely clean with sculpted bodywork raising to accept the folded top in the well and then lowering to exhibit clean lines without the bulk of the top mechanism and material to be seen, or the additional efforts needed to cover with a boot. Fender skirts, whitewall tires, factory wheel covers and radio are also found on this desirable and uncommon luxury convertible.
