The second-generation Corvette Sting Ray features a stimulating aerodynamic design by Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda. The Coupe is immediately recognizable by virtue of its one-year-only split rear window. Of the four 327-cid V-8 engines available, the 340 horsepower version, such as seen in this beautiful machine, delivers performance that remains adrenaline-charged even today.
The 1963 Sting Ray had superb engineering and was destined to become an instant classic. Underneath that gorgeous body was a “serious car” and the first use of the Sting Ray name to describe the car, as well as distinctive hidden headlights.
The all-new Corvette generated immediate acclaim, with Motor Trend testers remarking, “We thought the old model cornered darn well, but there’s no comparing it to this new one.” Road & Track stated that the 1963 Corvette “will know few peers.” Zora Arkus-Duntov, known as the father of the Corvette, was quoted as having said of the 1963 model, “For the first time I now have a Corvette I can be proud to drive in Europe.”
This exciting Corvette runs with a drivetrain that is believed to be correct to the car, including the four-speed manual transmission. This is a great example of the introductory year of the legendary Sting Ray. The Corvette is richly presented in Tuxedo Black with red vinyl interior. Additional features are found in the cast alloy knock-off hub wheels, factory clock, AM/FM radio, power windows and Goodyear whitewall tires. This is a strong presentation of a respected marque favorite.
