Cadillac was fortunate to be part of the hugely successful General Motors empire during the Great Depression. Strategically, management felt that it was worth continuing to offer cars like the V-16 as image cars for the division. More importantly, GM had the resources to back the decision, even in the face of minuscule sales levels. The introduction of an all-new, smoother, quieter, side valve V-16 for 1938 proved to be the swan song for the multi-cylinder era.
The style 9079 Five-Passenger Sedan offered here, bodied by Fleetwood, is finished in black with beige upholstery and trim. The rear compartment is nicely appointed with courtesy lighting, foot- and arm-rests, smokers' kits and abundant legroom. The exterior has been given a thorough restoration with very good paint and chrome and the interior is completely original and in great condition. It is further equipped with red steel wheels shod in wide whitewall tires, foglights and enclosed dual sidemounts. Retaining its original upholstery, it would be an ideal Full Classic tour car. This represents one of only 315 Cadillac 38-90 V-16s built in all body styles. It’s a rare and desirable classic era automobile.
