Invited by Ford’s Lee Iacocca to build up some Mustangs for SCCA racing, Carroll Shelby created the GT 350 with a hotted-up 289 and stronger chassis components. A Shelby GT 500 followed in 1967, using Ford’s 428 cubic inch engine. A fiberglass nose and a Kammback tail gave it a distinctive appearance.
Being one of 1,534 built for 1969, listed in the Shelby Registry and documented with a Marti Report; this 428-cid Cobra Jet Shelby GT 500 comes as a well-optioned and beautifully presented performance machine. The GT 500 was ordered with a C-6 automatic transmission, tinted glass, Visibility Group, Sport Deck folding rear seat, Tilt-Away steering wheel, AM radio, Deluxe seatbelts, power steering and tachometer with trip odometer. The Shelby has experienced performance upgrades that include MSD ignition system and four-wheel disc brakes, plus “Eleanor”-style wheels. This exciting car is reported to be very fast and is sure to inject the adrenaline.
