Although the first series cars of 1953 to 1955, introduced the Corvette to America, it was the second series, launched in 1956, which earned Corvette the title “America’s Sports Car”. The clean good looks of Harley Earl’s new body struck a chord with the American public, and the new design was soon outselling the older style by a margin of three to one.

Corvette styling was significantly updated in 1961, which included a new and tidier rear end design with revised trim and four taillights. At the front of the car, the aggressive chrome teeth of the earlier models were replaced with a stylish fine mesh. This less decorative look was carried through 1962 and taken one step further with the elimination of a number of chrome accents and the revision of others.

The 1962 Corvette received highly acclaimed styling revisions and an enlarged 327-cubic inch V-8 engine. The Corvette was easier and more fun to drive than ever before, and buyers agreed, with 1962 sales fully one-third higher than 1961 levels.

Under Zora Arkus-Duntov, the Corvette engineering team had plenty of high-performance parts under the shelf to support the growing number of racers, even as they worked feverishly on the upcoming Sting Ray. In 1962, the most-powerful Corvette engine was the RPO 582 fuel-injected 327-cid V-8, now in just one very highly developed 360 horsepower state of tune. Amazingly, 1,918 Corvette buyers opted for this option in 1962, paying an additional $484.20 to enjoy the mystique and performance of the “fuelie.”

This original fuel-injected 1962 Corvette is likely to be one of the most original of its type in existence. It was discovered many years ago when it was found stored in an individual’s house. Yes, it was in their house, not their garage. When the car was purchased, the walls of the home actually had to be demolished in order to get this rare, fuel-injected Corvette out to the street!

This fuel-injected, four-speed roadster soon became the property of the noted Corvette authority and National Corvette Restorers Club Judging Chairman Roy Sinor. After close examination, it was confirmed that this special Corvette had traveled only 50,000 miles since new and still retained its original Honduras Maroon paint and black leather interior. Of course, the car was soon exhibited and judged at the famed annual Bloomington Gold Corvette show and not only became a Five-Star NCRS Bowtie Award Winner, but also received the coveted NCRS Silver Survivor Award.

Along with the coveted 327-cid, 360-hp fuel-injected V-8 engine is the desirable four-speed manual transmission. Additionally you will find the optional removable hardtop, spinner-style wheel covers and a clock.

For the collector who desires incomparable beauty and breathtaking performance, nothing compares to the excitement offered by an early Corvette. This “fuelie” from 1962 represents the peak of C1 development and is destined to remain a high-demand collectible. Today, this car remains in excellent original and well-preserved condition inside and out. Original cars have seen an unprecedented demand in today’s collector car marketplace and this Corvette would be a welcomed addition into any serious collection.
