The 1917 Abbott-Detroit 6-44 Speedster is in excellent maintained condition. According to the HCCA there are only 10 registered Abbott-Detroit cars of all years in existence.

This car is a factory speedster, possibly one of nine built. The car has the original Continental 224 cubic inch six-cylinder engine with 44-hp and a three-speed manual transmission.. All bodywork is also original from the factory.

It was acquired by Fred Crawford for the Thompson Auto Album from A.K. Miller in 1944. This collection was donated to the Western Reserve Historical Society in 1964 to form the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum. The seller acquired it from them in 1986. It has always been in an indoor environment and is rust-free.

In the 1920s it was painted tan without disassembly. No other cosmetic work was done or needed. Leather upholstery and trunk covering is all original. A U1Stromberg carburetor replaced the original, and the speedometer cable is missing. It starts right away and runs well. Due to the issues with ethanol in today’s fuels, the seller added an inline Carter electric fuel pump and Holley pressure regulator. The canvas top needs replacement fabric but the bows are excellent and the canvas can be used for patterns.

This is a very rare and desirable antique car and a very special opportunity to own such an original and wonderful running example of a larger early speedster.
