In the heyday of the convertible automobile, manufacturers tended to consider it a prestige model, frequently available in the top-flight series only. Pontiac was a notable outlier, offering a convertible coupe in the Catalina series, the entry-level full-size model, as well as the prestigious Bonneville. Unless you were trying to impress the neighbors with a “Bonnie,” there were advantages to the Catalina soft-top. In 1960, it weighed 130 pounds less and had a $400 lower price. The two cars used the same basic engine and had the same powertrain options. As a result, this ’60 Pontiac Catalina is something of a factory hot rod.
Equipped with Tri-Power, Pontiac’s three-deuce carburetion, its 389-cid engine is boosted to 318-hp. Other accessories include power brakes, air conditioning and a steering column-mounted Sun tachometer. A modern stereo has replaced the original radio, but the old AM unit is included with the car.
Body contours are excellent, and paint and brightwork very good. The car has a white vinyl top with matching boot. The interior is white vinyl, in very good condition. The engine compartment is generally clean but not show detailed, while underneath the car has a rough black finish and shows some road use.
