Although there was only one size of Model T Ford, they were often bodied in very diverse ways. Such is this paddy wagon replica built by Ralph Zajiczek and painted in the logo of the East Kittery, Maine, Police Department.

Intended as a long-distance driver, it is fitted with hydraulic disc brakes at the rear, a distributor conversion, alternator and 12-volt electrics, a Maxon citizens band radio and directional signals. A Ruckstell two-speed rear axle gives a cruising gear for highway travel. Various law enforcement items, a bell, hand-crank siren and a nightstick are included with the vehicle.

Zaliczek has driven it in more than 50 tours, and many marathon excursions. These included two sojourns from Dallas to the Arctic Circle and back, Dallas to New York and a race from New Jersey to Seattle. On one trip, Mr. Zaliczek was issued a warning by the Wisconsin State Patrol for speeding at 52 miles per hour in the town of Soldiers Grove. The hot rod engine, it should be noted, shows to be a1927 model of the venerable T, likely installed in the car during the previous restoration.
