After the impressive Impala for 1958, it might seem odd that Chevrolet never developed the styling concept further. No doubt they had plans, but they came to naught once designer Chuck Jordan peeked over the wall and spied Chrysler’s be-finned 1957 line. All GM activity came to a halt while a Plan B was instigated, a corporate-wide design of all-new cars for 1959. The winged ’59 Chevys were the result.

This 1959 Impala convertible is powered by the Turbo-Thrust version of the big-block 348-cid engine, making 250-hp with a single four-barrel carb. Equipped with power steering and power brakes, it has teardrop fender skirts, Continental kit, a signal-seeking radio and spinner wheel covers. The body contours and black paint are both excellent, and the brightwork is very good. It has Chevy’s renowned tri-tone interior, with a beige-red-maroon weave on the seats surrounded by red vinyl. The top is black vinyl with a red boot.

Sanitary throughout, it has a clean underbody painted red oxide and black X-frame chassis. The engine compartment is detailed to factory condition. It is, in short, as nice a ’59 Impala convertible as one could find. It is bound to please its new owner.
