One evening in 1957, country singer Marty Robbins was driving from his motel to a gig in Ohio. On the way he passed a high school where students were gathering for their senior prom. Into his head popped the words “a white sport coat and a pink carnation,” which, when recorded to his own music, quickly rose to number one on the country music charts. Ironically, those words nearly paraphrase this car: a white Sport Coupe and a red interior.
A frame-off restoration, this car has the desirable Super Turbo-Fire 283 with single four-barrel carburetor. Accessories include power steering, pushbutton radio, clock, Continental kit, teardrop fender skirts, spinner wheel covers, door edge guards, flip-up gutters for the door windows, and a rare Chevrolet bug screen on the radiator. Contours, paint, brightwork and interior are all excellent. The engine compartment is correctly detailed, as is the black undercarriage.
Marty Robbins was a car guy. It is easy to envision him driving his date to a prom in this white Sport Coupe with the red interior.
