Advertised as “The Hot One,” Chevy’s new overhead valve V-8 for 1955 was just that, especially when equipped with the Power Pack, a four-barrel carburetor setup that came with dual exhausts. The public loved it, and nearly 1.7 million were sold, a record for the marque at a record moment, the industry’s first seven-million-car year.
Although not the hottest, this handsome ‘55 Chevy Bel Air Convertible is still a Hot One. Equipped with a single Rochester two-barrel carburetor, it has Chevy’s uncomplicated and sturdy Powerglide automatic and dual exhausts. Two-tone paint schemes were a must in 1955, and this car does not disappoint. Its white over turquoise is a favorite Chevy selection, mirrored in the vinyl interior. The white vinyl convertible top has a matching boot cover. Notably, original upholstery materials were used in the restoration.
Contours, paint and brightwork are excellent. The engine compartment is clean and correctly detailed, without being overdone. Well optioned, it is equipped with a signal-seeking AM radio with power antenna, windshield washers and a tissue dispenser. An original brochure, owner’s guide and a manual for the power top are included in the sale.
