The Chevrolet Camaro, General Motors’ answer to the hugely successful Ford Mustang, launched for the 1967 model year. Offered in both coupe and convertible body styles, it capitalized on a wide range of market interests with over 80 pieces of optional equipment. Two of the most desirable options packages offered for the Camaro were the RS and SS packages, which could be ordered separately or together.

For 1969, Chevrolet updated the exterior design of the Camaro, making it look longer, lower, and wider. Meanwhile, the RS, or “Rally Sport,” appearance package provided distinctive hideaway headlights and other embellishments. The SS package offered a louvered hood, specific ornamentation, an upgraded suspension and transmission, power disc brakes, and a 396 cubic-inch “Turbo Jet” V-8 engine rated to produce an impressive 325 horsepower.

The 1969 Camaro convertible offered here left the Norwood, Ohio factory highly optioned with both the RS and SS packages, along with various other desirable features. Finished in eye-catching Daytona Yellow with a white top and an Ivory and Black interior, the car was equipped from new with power steering, power disc brakes, a power-operated top, power driver-side mirror, floor-mounted center console, special instrumentation, AM pushbutton radio with auxiliary rear speaker, custom deluxe seatbelts, chambered pipe exhaust system, Endura front bumper, interior décor package, tinted windows, wheel trim rings, among features.

A copy of the original window sticker and a build sheet from GM Canada, dated March 2005, indicate that the car was dispatched on 7 May 1969, having been ordered through the “G.M. of Canada Company Car Account – Sales Department” in Oshawa, Ontario. This time-capsule Camaro retains the factory-correct color scheme and SS powertrain, consisting of the 396 cubic-inch “Turbo Jet” V-8 engine and three-speed “Turbo Hydra-Matic” automatic transmission.

Besides the window sticker and GM of Canada documents, an undated U.S. Camaro Club Registry Form also accompanies the sale. It lists mileage at 58,000 miles, while the odometer showed 60,090 miles at cataloguing time. Well-presented and brimming with factory-correct features, this head-turning, high-performance Camaro convertible is ready to be enjoyed as a prime collection piece, a weekend cruiser, or both.
