STUART, Florida (March 24, 2016) – March is certainly an exciting month for car enthusiasts in South Florida. Fresh on the heels of this weekend’s Fort Lauderdale International Auto Show, leading collector car auction house, Auctions America, will lift the gavel on some 450 classics at the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center, April 1 – 3. Celebrating its 14th year in 2016, Auctions America’s Fort Lauderdale sale is widely recognized as not only South Florida’s premier collector car auction, but also one of the area’s top classic car shows, presenting a wonderful showcase of automotive history and design for enthusiasts of all stripes.
Among highlights of this year’s event are an exceptionally rare 1948 Tucker 48—a vehicle seldom seen at any auction, expected to bring over $950,000—and a globe-trotting 1981 BMW M1, which traveled the world with its Miami-based businessman owner before landing in South Florida in 2012. Estimated to bring between $500,000 and $600,000, the M1 is offered at the Fort Lauderdale sale by its first and only owner and showing just 13,500 original miles.
In addition, and as part of Auctions America’s commitment to give back to the local communities in which it operates, the company is proud to once again lend its support to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County (BGCBC) via the sale of a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Restomod Convertible. Fully restored with a custom interior and wheels, and fitted with an upsized 351-cid V-8 engine paired with an automatic transmission and performance-type shifter, the Ford Restomod is estimated to fetch between $20,000 and $30,000 when it crosses the block during the event’s Saturday, April 2 sale session. It is offered without reserve, meaning it will sell to the highest bidder, with 100 percent of proceeds supporting the BGCBC. A non-profit private agency dedicated to helping young people improve their lives by building self-esteem and developing values and skills during their critical period of growth, each year the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County serve more than 12,500 local at-risk youth, ages 6 – 18.
The same sale will also lift the gavel on a pair of motorcycles signed by G. Gordon Liddy– a 2006 Metropolitan Luftwaffe Bf 109 E Messerschmitt custom chopper and a 2006 Metropolitan Royal Air Force Super Marine Spitfire custom chopper – with proceeds from their sale supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Indian River County.
A must-attend event on the national collector car calendar, Auctions America’s Fort Lauderdale sale is led by local collector car veteran, Donnie Gould. Son of Tiny Gould, Donnie grew up in Broward County attending many local car shows with his father, and, over the years, has played a key role in helping cultivate South Florida’s extensive collector car community. Donnie’s father established the first South Florida collector car auction in 1975, and now, some 40 years later, Donnie will continue the family legacy with another installment of Auctions America’s Fort Lauderdale event next week.
Auctions America’s Fort Lauderdale sale is held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center. Admission to the event is $20 per day, and a weekend pass, valid Thursday-Sunday, is available for $50. Children 12 and under will receive free entry.
